Six persons of a cartel, including a former CRPF officer, have been arrested for supplying illegal weapon in the Capital, police said on Thursday.

Six sophiscated weapons and a country-made pistol were recovered from Ravinder Kumar, 28, Satish Kumar, 25, Vinod Kumar, 28, Jitender, 35, and Raju, 34.

“They used to procure illegal weapons from Meerut, and sell them in Delhi and Haryana at exorbitant prices,” said Anil Kumar Ojha, additional commissioner of police (south-west).

Ravinder, former Central Reserve Police Force officer who now works as a businessman’s personal security officer, was the kingpin of the racket. “He was enrolled as a constable in 2009, but was dismissed owing to a criminal case in Haryana,” Ojha added.

The action was taken keeping in view the rising trend of illegal arms and ammunition usage. “An extensive drive for apprehension of criminals was initiated following recent incidents of snatching and robberies,” Ojha added.

On Tuesday, information was received that four persons indulging in arms trafficking would come to Issapur village. Around 4.30 pm, a Tata Indigo car was signaled to stop and occupants Ravinder, Jitender, Anil and Satish were nabbed. Five sophisticated weapons were recovered from them.

At their instance, two teams were immediately dispatched to Issapur and Dichaon Kalan village and Raju and Vinod were nabbed near Vinod’s house at Issapur village.
A motorcycle stolen from Sarojini Nagar, another sophiscated weapon and a country-made pistol were recovered.

Raju is temporarily employed with Municipal Corporation of Delhi, while Satish is an RTV driver.

“Jitender has a criminal history, and it has come to light that his elder brother was jailed for killing his wife,” Ojha said.

Many first-time criminals have managed to get sophisticated pistols in the Capital at a cost between Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000, while country-made pistols are easily available for Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000 in Meerut.
