A day after Gujrat chief minister Narender Modi gave his speech at Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi Police on Thursday lodged a rioting case against protesters and activists of several student organisations.

Protesters mostly from AISA, SFI, DSU and CFI had clashed with police outside the SRCC college and broke police barricades. “A case under sections 147, 148, 149, 186, 332 and 353 of the Indian Panel Code has been filed with Maurice Nagar police station,” a police official said.

The prestigious Delhi University college had invited Modi to address students on the topic of “Emerging Business Models in the Global Scenario”. Modi was expected to reach around 4 pm, but the protesters turned up at 3 pm and started shouting slogans.

“Protesters were getting violent and clashed with police although they had promised a day before during a meeting that they would protest peacefully. They clashed with police in which a number of policemen got injured,” the official added. They did not disperse even after their assembly was declared illegal by authorities.
