Geetika's mother also ends life

Last Updated 15 February 2013, 19:46 IST

Six months after former MDLR Airlines employee Geetika Sharma committed suicide alleging harassment by Haryana politician Gopal Goyal Kanda, her mother hanged herself at her Ashok Vihar house in north-west Delhi on Friday, police said.

Anuradha Sharma, in her 50s, who was suffering from hypertension since Geetika’s death on August 5, 2012, was found hanging from a ceiling fan. Police have recovered a suicide note in which she blamed Kanda and his associate Aruna Chaddha for ruining their family and forcing Geetika to commit suicide.

A fresh case under Sections 306 (abetment to suicide) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code has been filed against Kanda and Chaddha with Ashok Vihar police station on the basis of the suicide note.

Anuradha’s death comes six months and 10 days after Geetika committed suicide by hanging in the same house. The suicide note was found in the same drawer where Geetika left her suicide note, and the ceiling fan for hanging was also the same.

Anuradha had returned from her office around 4:30 pm. According to police, her husband Dinesh and son Ankit were not at home when she took the extreme step.
“Her nephew Gaurav Sharma saw her hanging and alerted neighbours. A call was placed to the police control room at 5:55 pm,” a police official said.

A PCR van reached the spot by 6 pm and broke open the main door of the house. Dinesh and Ankit were also informed after which Ankit reached at the house around 6:35 pm.
Anuradha’s body was taken to Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital at 7 pm. A post- mortem will be conducted on Saturday.

Kanda, chairman and managing director of MDLR Group, was also named in the suicide note left behind by Geetika.

Her family alleges that Kanda was harassing the 23-year-old, who worked with several MDLR Group companies.
The 46-year-old, however, claims that he was framed in the case.
