<p>The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the City Police submitted a charge sheet claiming that RTI activist Lingaraj's act of filing a complaint against Azad Nagar corporator Gowramma regarding accumulation of illegal property led to his murder. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The SIT officers submitted the charge sheet before the First ACMM court on Friday. <br /><br />"We have filed a nearly 4,500-page charge sheet against 12 persons including Gowramma and Govindaraju. We have obtained statements from 134 witnesses. Details of the mobile phone calls and movements of the couple after the murder alone run into more than 3,000 pages," a senior officer of the SIT told Deccan Herald.<br /><br />Lingaraj had filed a private complaint before the Lokayukta against Gowramma and Govindaraju days before he was hacked to death. Moreover, he had provided crucial documents regarding financial transactions of the couple and their illegal activities, the charge sheet said.<br /><br />The Lokayukta officials acted as per Lingaraj's complaint and raided the corporator's residence on November 9, 2012 and recovered gold ornaments, property documents and other properties worth several crores of rupees. <br /><br />Govindaraju had given a supari of Rs seven lakh to kill Lingaraj. All suspects arrested in this connection are in judicial custody, the charge sheet said. <br /><br />The supari killers hacked Lingaraj to death on November 20, 2012, near his house in Vithal Nagar. A Division Bench of the High Court of Karnataka had registered a suo motu case and had ordered the State government to transfer the case to the SIT headed by Joint Commissioner of Police (West Division) Pranab Mohanty and CID Superintendent of Police Abdul Ahad.<br /><br /></p>
