Last Updated 18 February 2013, 18:24 IST

Close on the heels of a tiger found dead due to poisoning near Jungle Lodges recently, it is also suspected that the death of  a four year old tigress found at Sollapur near Annur, Hosalli on Sunday was due to consuming poisoned food.

The post-mortem was conducted on Monday. The body of a cow bearing claw marks was found about 200 metres from the carcass of the tigress. Four crows and an eagle were also discovered dead near the body of the cow.

It is suspected that the carcass of the cow was poisoned. Forest officials have began to search the forests as the possibility of few more animal deaths after consuming the meat of the cow cannot be ruled out. Forest veterinarian Dr Umashanker informed that the carcass of the tigress was marked with several injuries. The owner of the dead cow is still to be traced, he said.

Jumbos found dead

The carcass of a female jumbo was discovered at Punajuru range of Biligiriranganatha tiger reserve here on Monday. Death has been attributed to a fight between two elephants.
