Sleuths from the Central Crime Branch (CCB) Organised Crime Wing recently arrested a person for conspiring to kill retired police officer B B Ashok Kumar. The arrested has been identified as Balasubramanyaraje Urs alias Balu, 45, a resident of BTM Layout II Stage.

CCB sources said Urs was a close associate of notorious rowdy Somashekhar alias Deadly Soma, who was killed in an encounter by B B Ashok Kumar some years ago. Urs was convicted in the double murder case of Yogendra Shreshti and his wife Damayanthi in 1988 in Tilak Nagar. He was sentenced to life imprisonment. He came in contact with Rajashekar Reddy, a right hand man of Deadly Soma, while serving his life sentence. He came out of the prison in 2008 on parole and had been absconding ever since.

The conspiracy to kill Ashok Kumar came to light when Urs bragged about his plan at a bar in Malleswaram in an inebriated condition. Ashok Kumar had recently met the City Police Commissioner and other higher officials and sought protection.
