Cops push old couple out of train, wife dies
In a shocking incident, an old couple was allegedly pushed out of a moving train by the jawans of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district on Wednesday.
According to reports, Rajeshwar Tyagi, who is an employee with the UP irrigation department, was waiting with his wife to board a train for Saharanpur. The couple, however, mistakenly boarded Deheradun-New Delhi Shatabdi express. “We were in a hurry and it just did not occur to us that we were not authorised to board Shatabdi express”, he said.
The railway police jawans, who were inside the compartment, allegedly pushed the couple out of the train, which was already on the move. While Tyagi suffered injuries, his wife Santosh Devi died, reports said. “I kept telling the jawans that we had boarded the train by mistake...we also showed them tickets but they still pushed us”, Tyagi said later.
Initially, the railway police at Muzaffarnagar said that it was an accident and refused to register a case but later they lodged an FIR against RPF sub-inspector Ram Chander and constable Subhash Kumar. A case under section 304 of the Indian Penal Code (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) has been registered against the duo, police officials said.
Tyagi, who is nearing his retirement, claimed that his attempt to lodge a report against the railway cops was not successful initially as the police personnel kept saying that it was an accident.”
