JOIN USSatisfied by the Odisha government’s efforts to kich-start the proposed Posco steel project in the coastal Jagatsinghpur district, the South Korean government was hopeful that the project work will start shortly.
“The state government is trying its best to expedite the Posco project. I hope the difficulties will be cleared soon and the plant work will take off”, South Korea’s ambassador to India Lee Joon Gyu told reporters here on Wednesday after meeting chief minister Naveen Patnaik to check the progress of the multi crore project.
Several state government officials took part at the meeting, held at the state secretariat, besides the chief minister and the South Korean envoy.
The ambassador regretted “too much” of a delay in the project implementation. “The MOU for the project has expired since long. There has definitely been too much delay compared to the Korean standard”, he said.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, the Jagatsinghpur district administration on Wednesday decided not to go for any land acquisition in Dhinkia and Patana, considered to be stronghold of Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti.
“We want to make it clear to everybody through the media that we have no intension of acquiring any land in Dhinkia and Patana. The land acquisition is currently going on in Govindpur in a transparent and peaceful manner which will continue”, Jagatsinghpur district Collector, S K Mallick said.
