Madani blasts K'taka judiciary

Last Updated 10 March 2013, 21:55 IST

Defying parole conditions stipulated by the Karnataka High Court, PDP leader and Bangalore blasts accused Abdul Nasser Madani on Sunday cast aspersions on the judicial system and said the “ray of justice is still far off” for him.

Madani, on a five-day parole to attend his daughter’s marriage in Kollam, was released from Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bangalore on strict conditions that he should not talk to the media or address public functions.

Delivering the Muthuba (blessing) speech at daughter Shameera Jowhar’s wedding at Kottiyam near Kollam, he said: “No one should mistake that there is a change in the system just because I am attending the marriage. I have been granted parole because it could not have been rejected.”

Taking a dig at Karnataka authorities, he said he was passing through a tragic situation where a ray of justice could not be seen even remotely, but added that he was relieved to be in Kerala where the sense of justice was very high. “I am not the only innocent languishing in jail. Hundreds rot in prisons elsewhere in the country. In the jail where I am lodged, an orphaned boy from Malappuram is locked up,” he said.
He said he was hounded for some words and usages in his speeches earlier also. “I tendered my unconditional apology to Kerala society when I reached here from Coimbatore prison after being exonerated from the blast case there.’’

Madani was granted parole for five days to attend his daughter’s marriage and visit his bed-ridden father. He was accompanied by five armed Karnataka policemen, who requested him not to address the guests on Sunday. But he went ahead with his speech, saying it was part of the marriage rite.  His speech has kicked up a heated debate across the state with the BJP saying that he has violated the parole condition. Hence his parole be cancelled.
