Five militants arrested during search operations in Manipur

Five militants, including two women of different banned organisations, have been arrested during search operations at various places in Manipur, police said today.

Sources said state police commandos arrested a militant of People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), identified as Pukhrambam Amarjit Singh (27) from Kairang area in Bishenpur district yesterday.

In another search operation yesterday, commandos nabbed a member of United Revolutionary Front (URF) identified as Hekrujam Joichandra (36) from Lamlong area in Imphal east district last evening, sources said adding that two PREPAK women members identified as Mayanglambam Victoria Devi (39) and Aribam Rita Devi (35) were also arrested from Thangapat Mapal area in the district.

Sources said 'monetary demand letters' were recovered from the four militants along with mobile phones and other material, adding that all four were actively involved in the extortion of money from general public.

In yet another manhunt last evening, commandos also arrested a militant of Kanglei Yawol Kann Lup (KYKL) identified as  koijam Nimai (51) from Mana Ingkhol area in Imphal west district, sources said adding that Nimai was involved in mobilising local volunteers to organise seminars, debates etc on various 'anti-national topics.'

All five were in police custody for further interrogation, sources added.
