3 women electrocuted

Three women were electrocuted when they came in contact with an electric fence in Bommanahalli of Sindhagi taluk on Thursday.

The deceased have been identified as Lakshmibai Boodappa Shivanagi (42), Mahananda Erappa Poojari (20) and her twin sister Bhagamma Erappa Poojari (20).

Unauthorised power

According to Hescom officials, the fence had an illegal power connection. The electrified fence had been placed  around the sugar cane field to prevent pigs from damaging crops.

Of the three victims,  the twin sisters are the daughters of the land owner while Lakshmibai was a farm worker. The accident occurred while the three were crossing the fence to enter the field.

Alamel police have registered a case.
