The City police on Wednesday rescued a two-year-old girl within hours of her abduction and apprehended the abductor at Jagjeevanram Nagar.

In a complaint to the Chamarajpet police, Shaziya alleged that while her cousin Gaus Khan’s three children -- Harbina Khan, 4, Misbah Khan, 3, and Hazira Khan, 2 -- were playing in their house at Tipu Nagar, a burqa-clad woman came asking for water and sat at the door for a while.

An hour later, Harbina and Misbah told Shaziya, who was busy with household chores, that the woman had taken away Hazira, luring her with chocolates. Shaziya rushed to the Chamarajpet police station and lodged a complaint. The police formed five teams, and with the help of local residents, launched a hunt for the abductor and the child.

The police scouted around Goripalya, Tipu Nagar, Azad Nagar, Valmiki Nagar and Byatarayanapura and set up barricades on several roads. However, later in the evening, Arif Pasha, who spotted a woman roaming about suspiciously carrying a child at Jagjeevanram Nagar 9th Main, alerted the police who rushed to the spot and arrested the suspect identified as Parveen Banu, 50, and rescued the child.
