The BJP, in the past five years, did both “what it should have and what it should not have,” according to Deputy Chief Minister K S Eshwarappa.

The unusual confession came from the former State president of the BJP here on Monday. Speaking at a party workers’ meeting ahead of the Assembly polls, he said: “ We underwent all the tribulations that the Congress did not in the past 60 years.

The party, after coming to power in the State for the first ever time in southern India, not only triggered development but was also mired in corruption and caught in a web of CBI and Lokayukta inquiries.”

All those leaders who were responsible for several unfortunate episodes in the BJP are now out of it, thus cleansing the party, he said.

“ Overall it has been a great learning experience,” he added.
Making a candid admission, Eshwarappa said that he was not responsible for former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa going to jail.

“Also, I am not responsible for him losing power. Instead, corruption charges were levelled against Yeddyurappa and his sons because of their own deeds,” he added.

The Congress, which dubs the BJP communal and prides itself as a secular party, has resorted to the worst kind of casteist politics. Leaders like Dr G Parameshwara, S M Krishna, Siddaramaiah, Shamanur Shivashankarappa, D K Shivakumar and others have been approaching the party high command seeking tickets for candidates from their respective castes, said Eshwarappa.

Modi, the next PM

Eshwarappa said after having overcome several hurdles in the past five years, the party will again be voted to power in the Assembly polls. In the Lok Sabha elections next year, the BJP will emerge victorious and seize power at the Centre. Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will be the next prime minister, he said.
