Three college students meet watery grave

 Three stud­e­n­ts drowned in two separate incidents on the City outskirts on Tuesday.Sampath, a PU student at Oxford College in JP Nagar, drowned in a water-filled quarry at Bettadasanapura on Tuesday afternoon. His body was recovered on Wednesday morning.

Sampath, 17, a resident of Shikaripalya near Hebbagodi, had gone along with eight friends to relax in the water body. However, Sampath, who did not know how to swim, ventured into the deep water pit and drowned, his friend Nagaraj said. “Even I do not know how to swim. So, I sat out. But Sampath did not heed our advice and dived into the quarry,” he told the police in his statement.

Firemen who rushed to the spot conducted a search operation till late night, but in vain. On Wednesday morning, the body was floating in the water and some local residents retrieved it, Electronics City police said. Sampath is a native of Kundapur and his father Suresh works at a hotel in the City.

In a similar incident, two students of MEI Polytechnic College, Rajajinagar, who, along with 13 other students, had gone on a picnic to Manchinabele dam on the City outskirts, drowned in the water on Tuesday evening. Police gave the names of the dead as Mahesh, 20, and Raghu, 20, both residents of Bangalore.

Their bodies were recovered by a team of expert divers on Wednesday afternoon, Tavare­kere police said.
