BBMP to issue ID slips to voters

Last Updated 03 April 2013, 20:50 IST

To ensure that voters who have not received  their Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC) are not denied their voting right, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will issue voter identification slips to all the voters in the City.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, BBMP commissioner Siddaiah said that the Palike will issue voter ID slips to all the voters whose names figure in the electoral rolls.
“In the last four months, BBMP has added about 10 lakh  voters to the electoral roll due to continuous revision. We have almost reached an ideal situation as per the Election Commission of India guidelines,” said Siddaiah.

He said although the EPIC ratio has been 98 per cent, there may be voters who have not yet got EPIC despite their names figuring in voters’ list.

Regarding the election preparedness, Siddaiah said at least 31,000 people will be deployed for poll duty in Bangalore City and Urban district limits while there will be a buffer staff of 20 per cent. This is in addition to the deployment of security personnel.

He said there will be 7,500 polling booths in the City, of which 4,000 have been rated sensitive, hyper sensitive and vulnerable.

“To ensure free and fair polls, our officers will go to vulnerable places to instil faith among voters. For the first time, there will be police observers too, who would be coming from neighbouring states,” he added.
