The National Human Rights Commission today asked UP Police to submit a report on allegations that a five-year old boy was tortured by policemen accusing him of theft.
The Senior Superintendent of Police of Lucknow has been asked to submit the report within four weeks.
The NHRC issued the notice taking suo motu cognisance of a media report.
According to the media reports, the incident took place on April 2 when policemen in Krishna Nagar picked up a class-I student on charges of theft and allegedly tortured him giving him electric shocks hurting his ears.
The police, however, have denied the allegations and said that the boy was handed over to them in injured condition.
