Union Petroleum Minister M Veerappa Moily on Wednesday said the state-run oil company, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), will take all steps to provide maximum help to the victims of the LPG tanker fire accident near Uppinangady, Mangalore, including compensation, construction of houses, shops and treatment of the injured.

“I have personally contacted the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada and assured him all assistance and support from the oil company. The district administration should make a proper assessment of the assistance required for compensating the loss of lives, injured persons and damage to properties.”

“HPCL will undertake to provide maximum assistance to reconstruct houses destroyed in the accident, treatment of the injured people and compensation to the kith and kin of the victims who have lost their lives in the tragedy,” he said in a statement.

The minister said he had also instructed all oil companies to take immediate steps to set up the long-pending Quick Response Centre with required equipment and trained personnel near Gundia on the Bangalore-Mangalore highway to respond to such accidents.
