'BSP' nomination creates confusion

Candidate fails to submit B form; Last date for submission is April 17

 The filing of nomination in the name of BSP candidate created confusion over the official candidate of the party, here at Madikeri on Friday.

S P Mahadevappa, leader from Veerashaiva community had submitted his nomination as a BSP candidate to the Returning officer G Prabhu.

Addressing presspersons jointly addressed by the BSP and SDPI, the leaders said that the party will field Rafique Khan from Madikeri and Usman Suntikoppa from Virajpet constituencies.

To a query on S P Mahadevappa filing nominations from BSP, SDPI district president Ameen Mohisin said that he was not aware of it.

Returning officer G Prabhu said that S P Mahadevappa had filed nominations from the BSP. However, had not submitted B form. Candidate ca submit B form before April 17.

Expenditure Observer Shashi Saklani called upon the officials to keep an eye on the expenditure of the candidates.

Speaking after visiting office of Media Certification and Monitoring Committee, at Madikeri on Friday, he said that he had visited video surveillance check post and has directed the conserved to inspect the vehicles entering the district from outside the district. Flying squad, video viewing team, static surveillance team and check post officials should ensure that the election is conducted peacefully in the district.

Zilla panchayat chief project officer A Srinivas Rao has been appointed as the nodal officer of election expenditure committee and N Nanjundaraju will be the assistant nodal officer.

IGP visits

IGP (western range) Dr K Ramachandrarao said that there is a need to conduct free and fair elections.

Speaking to presspersons during his visit to Kushalnagar, he said the public should support the police in conducting the election peacefully.

The police should keep an eye on sensitive and hyper sensitive polling booths and ensure that no untoward incidents take place. The citizens should deposit their arms in the nearest police stations.

Kushalnagar is growing as a commercial town in the district. The number of cases registered in the police station are on rise in the recent years.

Hence, an appeal has been sent to the government to set up a rural police station in Kushalnagar. SP Anucheth, DySP Paul S Varma and others were present.
