Officials register 95 complaints on code violation

With the model code of conduct in force, a total of 95 complaints on the violation of code of conduct have been registered with the district administration, police and the excise department in the Dakshina Kannada district, as on April 14. The model of conduct came into force on March 26.

According to the consolidated figures available with the district administration, the district administration has received 50 compliants in the last 18 days, while excise department has relieved 39 complaints, followed by five complaints in the office of superintendent of police and one complaint lodged with the Mangalore city police commissioner.

Highest number of cases are received from Mangalore constituency (17), while the least in Bantwal with the nine complaints registered so far.

As far as the complaints registered in DC and taluk office is concerned, highest number of cases have been registered in Bantwal (13 complaints) and least is registered in Belthangady and Puttur constituencies, with three complaints each. Some of the complaints include, distribution of meals to the Congress members at Timber merchant Ibrahim’s residency in Moodbidre constituency, complaint on political party meeting in Adyar in Mangalore North constituency, distribution of money by BJP members at Mani in Bantwal constituency.

The excise department documents reveal that the department has conducted 164 raids so far in the district, since the day of declaration of election and has booked 39 cases. As many as 23 persons were arrested for illegal production, sale, transportation and distribution of liquor. Four vehicles including one car, two autorickshaws and a jeep too were seized by the officials.
