Congress candidate from Mahalakshmi Layout constituency and sitting MLA N L Narendra Babu and Mahalakshmipuram corporator Keshavamurthy are trading charges over the recent attack on the latter’s house.

A gang of four men had, on the night of April 13, attacked Keshavamurthy's house in Geleyara Balaga and created a ruckus there.

The Mahalakshmi Layout police had arrested Bhagyanathan in connection with the case. Babu and police sources had said that Bhagyanathan had availed a loan from Citizen Co-operative Bank, of which Keshavamurthy is the president, and had attacked his house when the bank served a notice to him upon default.

Keshavamurthy has issued a clarification that Bhagyanathan's loan was six years old and only to the tune of Rs 38,000 and this could not be the cause for the attack on his house.

Threatened

He has alleged that the attackers warned his family members that he should act according to the wishes of Babanna (Narendra Babu) and Raviyanna (his brother N L Ravishankar) or face dire consequences.

He has alleged that the attack on his house was politically motivated and has demanded a through probe into the matter.

Meanwhile, Babu has issued statements to the effect that he was not behind the attack and that he strongly condemns it. He said Keshavamurthy was a ticket aspirant from Congress and was dejected that he did not get it. Babu has said that Keshavamurthy has been involving in anti-party activities and maligning his name.
