Delhi University’s joint action body which is fighting against the implementation of semester system will organise a protest against the four-year graduation programme through poetry. The idea is to describe the state of the university through humour, poetry and satire.

“The four-year graduation needs to be halted. The university officials keep talking about the redundancy of undergraduate courses. We are open to discussions on revising the syllabus,” said a teacher, who is organising the protest.

“However, the current four-year structure takes away all possibilities of learning and analytical thinking. The future of thousands of students is at stake,” the teacher added. The protest is planned on April 23 at Faculty of Arts.

The poster put by the body inviting participants in the campaign states, “Protesting the proposed four-year baccalaureate, crowning of fools through protest songs, stand-up spoof. If you have funny, tragic, comic, satirical poems, skits, speeches, art or any kind of creative work reflecting the state of university is in (or will be), please let us know as soon as possible.”

Meanwhile, the Department of English at Miranda House has written to the vice chancellor over not allowing teachers to participate in the process of formulation of the curriculum.

“We are deeply concerned about the arbitrary way in which the new graduation course is being implemented and introduced by the varsity authorities. We are shocked at the undemocratic manner in which the courses are being framed,” stated the letter, dated Spril 11, by Department of English which had signatures of 11 faculty members.

“Normal procedures of convening general body meetings (GBM) and involving teachers-in-charge for general participation is not being allowed,” the letter read.
Several English teachers from other university colleges have also called for a GBM on April 22.
