MG Road witnessed a huge traffic jam on Friday evening as a BMW car broke down at Brigade Road junction following a mechanical snag, blocking vehicular movement for nearly three hours.

The traffic jam on MG Road had a rippling effect crippling vehicular movement in adjoining areas including near the MG Statue Circle, said the police.

A black BMW car came to a halt a few yards from Brigade Road around 5 pm. The driver Mohammad, 28, failed to start it as its wheels got jammed due to ‘vacuum’ and all the doors were closed. He did not know how to clear the ‘vacuum’ and also failed to open the doors. He was stuck inside the car for more than two hours and, contacted the cops over cellphone, the police said.

The police rushed to the spot with toeing vehicles, but the driver prevented them from shifting the car claiming that the high-end car could be damaged. As the drama went on, vehicles got stranded on MG Road, till Anil Kumble circle.

Additional policemen from Cubbon Park and Ashok Nagar traffic police stations were pressed into service to restore order on the roads. The driver managed to open the doors after two hours, but he could not move the car as the wheels were jammed.

Finally, Mohammad informed his owner that he was unable to start the car. The owner contacted BMW technicians in Hosur and requested them to rush to the City, said the police.

“Technicians came to MG Road and found that the wheels had got jammed. But, they had not brought the key to clear the ‘vacuum.’ They expressed their helplessness in fixing the problem,” a traffic policeman told Deccan Herald.

With more vehicles lining up on the road, the traffic police tracked a BMW car owner, collected his car keys and cleared the ‘vacuum.’ The car finally took off. The police slapped a fine of Rs 300 on the driver.
