Bayern, Dortmund win in Bundesliga

Berlin, April 21, 2013 (IANS):
Bayern Munich showed no mercy when they crushed Hannover 6-1 to wrap up their 26th win of the season whereas Dortmund inflicted on Mainz their third consecutive loss owing to goals by Reus and Lewandowski in the 30th round of Bundesliga.

Newly crowned German champions Bayern Munich staged a relentless performance against hapless Hannover to celebrate a goal festival in a one-sided affair. Their 26th victory Saturday of the season is a new record in 50 years of Bundesliga, reports Xinhua.

The Bavarians dictated the proceedings on the pitch from the kick-off while Hannover were unable to gain a foothold into the game. The visitors broke the deadlock courtesy of Hannover's Lars Stindl, who deflected a square pass by David Alaba into his own goal (16th).
Bayern got the ball rolling when Franck Ribery doubled the lead six minutes later, utilising a through ball by Claudio Pizzaro, from inside the box. With a 2-0 lead, Bayern retracted while Hannover tried to reduce the lead before the break.

However, it were the German record champions that tripled the lead (41st) as Pizzaro set up for Mario Gomez, who had no problems to beat Hannover goalkeeper Ron Robert Zieler from close range. With 62 minutes into the game, Gomez sealed his brace when he exploited a low cross by Jerome Boateng to make it 4-0.

Claudio Pizzaro made it five (71st) as Hannover were unable to put up resistance.
Finally, Hannover were able to score as Andre Hoffmann headed home to score the consolation following a fumble by Manuel Neuer (84th). Nonetheless, Bayern Munich responded two minutes later when Pizzaro netted from a tight angle into an open goal.

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund secured their UEFA Champions League berth for next season as they overcame Mainz 2-0 to celebrate their 18th win of the season. Dortmund ensured a bright start as Marco Reus set the stage for the win with his opener in the first minute. Reus scored with a follow up shot into the open goal as Mainz keeper Christian Wetklo misjudged a long ball into the box.

Thereon Dortmund dominated the match but they were unable to extend their lead within the first half. It looked like Dortmund settled for a neat 1-0 win but things changed three minutes before final whistle when Robert Lewandowski extended his goal count to 23, following an assist by Lukasz Piszczek.

Elsewhere, Leverkusen cruised to a 5-0 victory over relegation threatened Hoffenheim that had to play with 10-men over seventy minutes.

Wasteful Schalke lost 0-1 to clinical Frankfurt as Marco Russ scored the only goal of the match. Schalke's Michel Bastos had the golden chance to open the scoring from the penalty spot but Frankfurt's keeper Oka Nikolov denied him in the 24th minute. Wolfsburg extend Bremen's winless run to nine games as the 'Wolves' wrapped up a 3-0 win owing to goals by Maximilian Arnold, Ivica Olica and Diego.

Hamburg recovered from three winless matches thanks to the brace by Rafael van der Vaart to secure a neat 2-1 win over newly promoted Dusseldorf.
