The father of the five-year-old gang-rape victim identified the  policeman of Gandhi Nagar police station who gave him Rs 2,000 to remain quiet over the issue.

Delhi Police’s vigilance department on Tuesday went to meet the victim’s father, who is with the girl at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, with the photographs of all the policemen posted at Gandhi Nagar station.

“After seeing the pictures, the victim’s father identified one of the policemen, saying he was the man who approached him,” said a police officer. The victim’s father told the vigilance officials that the “identified policeman” came to him on April 17 after his daughter was found and admitted to Swami Dayanand Hospital in Shahdara.

The policeman asked him to take some money but he did not hand over the amount himself but made his subordinate do it.

The victim’s father said that the policeman, while giving the money, told him to “remain quiet and not to worry” as his daughter was being given better treatment.

He said he has kept that bribe money at his home and will give it to the vigilance department officials as evidence.

The police officer has been identified as an inspector posted at the Gandhi Nagar police station.

“We are questioning him for the last 24 hours and trying to find out if he actually gave the money. Once it is established, he will be put under suspension and a departmental inquiry will be initiated,” said the officer.

He said the identity of the second person is yet to be established. Once things are verified and established, the errant policemen’s identity would be revealed.
