Loksatta founder and president Jayaprakash Narayan, on Saturday, launched an extensive campaign for the party’s candidates — Ashwin Mahesh (Bommanahalli constituency), Ravi Krishna Reddy (BTM Layout constituency) and Dr Meenakshi Bharath (Malleswaram).

He walked along with his supporters right through the day seeking votes for his party candidates. Addressing people, Narayan said: “Bangalore, which is a symbol of progress, is badly served by political parties. It is lacking basic infrastructural facilities such as water, power and roads.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that appeared victorious in the last Legislative Assembly elections has betrayed the people and same goes with other parties such as Congress, JD(S), KJP among others, which have become a cesspool of corruption. What we need is change and people too have realised that very well.”

The founder member of Foundation for Democratic Reforms (FDR) is hopeful that his party candidates would emerge successful in this year’s elections. He conceded: “I just wish people take part in voting and vote for the right candidate irrespective of different parties.”

Loksatta Party spokesperson, Anand Yadwad said there are 24 candidates from the party contesting the elections, of which around 11 are contesting for the constituencies in the City. Bommanahalli constituency Lok satta candidate Ashwin Mahesh (43) is hopeful he will win. He said: “I have personally visited more than 10,000 homes and am aware about what people want.”

“My priorities for development of this constituency include improving lakes and restoring them, stopping corruption at government departments and improving the road design,” he added.

The party whose symbol is ‘whistle’ has been getting good response from people especially from the four constituencies — Basavanagudi, Malleswaram, Bommanahalli and BTM Layout, says volunteers from Loksatta party. Meanwhile, Ravi Krishna Reddy (39) , software professional, writer and social activist contesting from BTM Layout is also hopeful that he will win considering the huge support from the public.

“Traffic and water are the main problems that the layout is facing and I wish to restore it at the earliest if I win.”

Jayaprakash stated that the main agenda of the party, was to bring reforms in the electoral system. “We are also chalking out plans to train young people who want to join our party and help in bringing the change we want in the society.”
