ASI trampled by wild tusker

Another constable runs to safety

According to police, both Basavegowda and another police constable, Ravi were going on their two wheeler to Kolipallya in connection with the inquiry of a murder case. As they were proceeding, the tusker came in the way.
On seeing the elephant, both of them ran in different directions. While the police constable managed to escape, the ASI was trampled to death by the elephant.  His body was found at a distance from the spot.
The police constable informed the incident to Forest Department, who, with the help of watchers and forest guards, brought the body to Chamarajanagar Government Hospital. The body was handed over to the relatives after conducting the postmortem.
Basavegowda, a native of Chikkayyanachatra in Nanjanagud taluk had joined the police service 30 years ago. He was residing with his family at Kollegal.
He is survived by wife Gowramma, daughters Rupa and Shilpa and son Mahesh. DySP M M Mahadevaiah, CPI Prathap Reddy, PSI Manjunath visited the spot. SP K Sreedhar placed a wreath on the body of Basavegowda  and paid  last respects. Senior police officers visited the spot.
Chamarajanagar West Police Station have registered a case.
