Blunders galore in DU maths paper

Last Updated 07 May 2013, 21:17 IST

Several Delhi University teachers have complained that the mathematics question paper for the third year degree students was full of errors and mistakes. Several colleges did not get the corrected paper and many received the corrections when the exam was about to end.

Errors and printing mistakes were found in the Bsc.Mathematics (H) final year paper (annual mode).

“I was an invigilator, it was chaotic. There were lot of errors. We consulted faculty teachers, also tried to contact examination controller’s office, however couldn't get through. We then told the students to do what they feel right, rectify the errors themselves,” said a teacher from Ramjas College. The corrections from the examination branch was sent to the college 15-20 minutes before the exam time was ending, he said.

A mathematics teacher from a prominent north campus college said that there were five errors and one was corrected by the college faculty. “Apart from these errors, the paper was full of mistakes and printing errors. In many cases, we could not understand the variables, numbers which may change the equation and the answer to the question. I am not aware of getting any corrected question paper,” he said.

Another teacher from a south campus college said that no corrected paper reached the college during the exam.

Students fear discrepancies in marks. “This is my third year, this result matters the most. I hope the university gives us another chance to attempt this paper," said a student of Ramjas College.
