Sonia nod to list of ministers awaited

Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who held a detailed meeting with Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and party state unit president G Parameshwara about Cabinet expansion, is likely to give her nod to the list of ministers on Friday.

A list comprising 27 legislators’ names has been submitted to Sonia by Siddaramaiah and Parameshwara for approval. She is likely to vet it and return to the State leaders, sources close to the development told Deccan Herald.

Before submitting the list, both Siddaramaiah and Parameshwara also held marathon meetings with Karnataka incharge Congress general secretary Madhusudan Mistry and senior leader Oscar Fernandes. Siddaramaiah and Parameshwara will return to Bangalore on Friday after meeting Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi.

“Though the list containing 27 names has been recommended for ministership, it is up to Sonia to take a decision on whether to accommodate all or induct only 20 immediately and the rest in the next stage,” sources said.

Sources also said that the list submitted to the high command also comprised legislators, who were facing charges of mining and land grabbing. As these were mere allegations, the state unit wanted to leave the final decision to the party top brass on giving the ministership to them or not.
