Coke Studio has been enthraling music lovers all over the country, showcasing a ensemble of artists who collaborate to create original music. Musicians like Master Saleem, Sunidhi Chauhan, Usha Uthup, Papon, Shilpa Rao, Amit Trivedi, Karsh Kale and Ehsaan-Loy have performed at Coke Studio.

It is a confluence of a diverse number of music genres, both vocal and instrumental, from traditional Eastern, to modern Western and from regional to folk. There are no two Coke Studio versions that are exactly alike but there is a common purpose – to reinvent the way music can capture the spirit of a nation, opening hearts and minds!

Keeping this in mind, it heralds its third season with fusion band talent hunt ‘Leap FROG to Coke Studio, MTV’ initiative, offering the country’s best musical talent. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for various bands from all across India to feature in the famed musical extravaganza from entirely different musical backgrounds and structures, to create magical sounds to bring forth the thrill of live recordings and performances, giving audiences a taste of something they’ve never witnessed before.

The latest leg of this initiative saw a great cultural milieu of musical sensibilities with bands such as Dravaka, a fusion band from Delhi, Mritika a fusion band with classical influences hailing from Kolkata and Tauheed, a Sufi Rock band from Delhi. The bands are vying for a spot on Coke Studio Season 3 and their journey kick-started with a great evening of music and entertainment, with each band performing live at the Blue Frog.
Suman Mishra, writer and composer of Tauheed band was happy to share his experience with Metrolife. “We are a Sufi band which sings to connect to the heart of the people.” Their number Wari Shah gathered the maximum applause from the young audience.

Coke Studio aims to create compositions that resonate with the youth of India and introduce them to a new sound that showcases the width of the musical landscape and give bands playing independent musical special chance to fast-track their way to glory.
Another band member, Aditya Dutt from Dravaka, said “We chose Luka Chuppi from Rang De Basanti to start our gig as we all are very close to our mothers and people just loved it.”

The fusion band talent hunt ‘LeapFROG to Coke Studio’, kicked off at BlueFROG Bombay and Delhi on May 9. Selected bands will perform every Thursday at blueFROG Bombay and Delhi till the grand finale on June 6. The winners of this initiative will go on to perform in a multi-producer episode of Coke Studio, MTV Season 3.
