The image of the Uttar Pradesh Police received yet another beating when a woman accused four cops of raping her inside a police out-post before her husband in Sant Kabir Nagar district, about 225 km from here.

The victim alleged that the outpost in-charge Shivaji Rao and three constables raped her inside the out-post premises while her husband, who was locked there, looked on. An inquiry has been ordered into the matter and the victim has been sent for medical examination.

According to reports, a district court had issued a non-bailable warrant against the victim’s husband following which the Bakhira out-post in-charge Rao had apprehended him on Sunday and brought him to the out-post.

The victim reached the police out-post later in the evening and requested the cops to release her husband.

Rao and three constables, who were present there, allegedly raped the victim even as she kept begging them to let her husband go.

The victim’s husband was released from jail on a court order on Wednesday and on Thursday the couple approached district police chief Piyush Srivastava with their written complaint.

“We have received a complaint against the four cops. An inquiry has been ordered and the victim has been sent for medical examination. Further action will be taken after the medical examination,” he said.

Custodial rape common

Earlier also women have been raped inside the police stations by cops. Barely a few months back, a senior sub-inspector of police was accused of raping a woman complainant inside his official residence in the police station premises.

He was later suspended and arrested. The state police had also drawn flak from the Supreme Court recently for misbehaving with some women protesters in Aligarh. The matter is pending in the apex court.
