Last Updated 30 May 2013, 22:04 IST

The Odisha government on Thursday ordered a judicial inquiry into the multi-crore chit fund scam in the state. The probe will be conducted by a sitting high court judge and will be completed in three months.

“There will be a judicial inquiry into the chit fund scam and it will be conducted by a sitting judge of the Orissa High Court which has already been requested to recommend a name. The probe will be completed within three months,” a statement released by the chief minister’s office said.

The commission will primarily look into three aspects. It would suggest measures to safeguard interests of genuine investors affected by the recent chit fund fraud.
It will  bring to the fore involvement of influential people including politicians, officials and other sections of the society, if any, in protecting and promoting the fraudulent chit fund companies.
