The arduous 1,050 km bus journey linking Delhi to Leh via Manali has restarted, eight months after it was stopped due to heavy snowfall, an official here said on Monday.

“The to and fro daily bus service between Delhi and Leh restarted on Monday. The 1,050 km journey will take 33 hours,” Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) regional manager Mangal Singh said.

The bus to the Ladakh capital will make brief halts and stop at major tourist spots like Manali in Kullu district and Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti district.

The one-way fare between Delhi-Leh is Rs 1,203.

The bus crosses four high mountain passes in the cold deserts of Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir — Rohtang Pass (13,050 ft), Baralacha Pass (16,020 ft), Lachungla Pass (16,620 ft) and Tanglangla Pass (17,480 ft).

“The response of the tourists is quite good. A passenger can even get online advance booking,” the official said.
