17-year-old breaks 100M record; Joyline grabs gold
Nirupama sets track ablaze on day one
Bangalore: DHNS, Nov 3:

Nirupama Sunderraj and Joyline M Lobo cashed in on perfect conditions to set new meet records on the opening day of the 25th State Junior Athletics Championship here on Tuesday.

The newly laid track at the Sree Kanteerava stadium and the afternoon drizzle that brought down the temperature gave the athletes a bright chance to come up with a good performance on the day.

Nirupama reached home in 11.6 seconds to bag the 100M gold, erasing Yamini D Rao’s three-year-old meet record of 12.0 seconds in the girls’ under-18 section.  It was also Nirupama’s first time under 12 seconds.  “The new track is bouncy and it was a good advantage,” said Nirupama.

The 17-year-old Indo-German Sports Club athlete brushed aside the challenge from Rebecca Jose, who also came under the meet mark to take silver in 11.8. Joyline, from Alva's, Moodbidre, leapt to a distance of 12.30 metres to grab the triple jump gold in the girls’ under-20 section.
Joyline bettered the previous mark of 12.28 held by Shilpa Sequeria from 1999. In the girls’ under-14 section, Mrudula Halgekar of Belgaum clocked 1:42.3 to break the meet mark in the 600M.

The Divine Provident’s eighth standard student went under the old time of 1:43.00 set last year by Nithyashree C A.
