Return BPL cards or face music, dept warns employees

Food and civil supplies dept gives final warning to government employees

The department of Food and Civil Supplies has given a final warning to those government employees possessing BPL card to return to the department. In case, if they continue to misuse the BPL card, then criminal case will be filed against them.

The department had come to know that a KPTCL employee is misusing BPL card in Somwarpet taluk. According to an estimate one per cent of the government employees are misusing BPL cards. Government officials have been given a final chance to return the BPL card. The users must return it by November end.
Those officials possessing BPL card can return it to Food inspectors, Deputy Tahsildar, Tahsildar, Food and Civil Supplies Deputy Director and at Deputy Commissioner’s office. “Those government employees who return the BPL card will be pardoned. No criminal action will be initiated against them,” said Food and Civil Supplies Deputy Director M Basavaraju to Deccan Herald.

He said the Government has passed a direction which stated that those cards with photographs and name of the family head will be supplied ration. If the ration card does not possess any photographs, then ration will not be supplied. To rectify the details like change in name, address, category in APL and BPL card, a unit will be opened in every taluk by December. The process of distribution of permanent ration cards in Madikeri and Virajpet taluk is complete. The permanent ration cards are being distributed in Somwarpet taluk, which will be completed by the month end, he added.

In Kodagu district, so far, 2819 —Anthyodaya, 43,979—BPL, 32,227—APL cards have been distributed. The distribution of 1,718 anthyodaya, 27,606 BPL and 19,118 APL cards are pending.
