JOIN USThe forest cell of Criminal Investigation Department (CID), along with the Hoskote police, has seized 7.939 tonne of Red Sanders wood valued at over Rs one crore, from a bio-tech company at Kyathasandra Industrial Area in Tumkur.
Red Sanders wood is an endangered species of flora protected under the Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species of Flora and Fauna. It is illegal to possess and sell the same, Arun Chakravarthy, IGP, CID, said.
Imran of Hoskote has been arrested in this connection.
Woman killed
A woman riding pillion on a scooter was killed when a truck rear-ended the two-wheeler on the Nagavara Ring Road on Wednesday.
Ramamani, 53, a resident of Coffee Board Layout, Kempapura, was returning home with her husband Somayaji when a cement mixer truck hit their scooter. Ramamani fell down and the truck ran her over, killing her on the spot. Somayaji escaped with minor injuries.
Hebbal traffic police have arrested Anjanappa, the driver of the truck, and seized the vehicle.
