‘Debt relief package for coffee growers soon’
Kolkata, Nov 4, DHNS:

The Union Commerce and Industry ministry has been mulling to shortly table a debt relief package for small coffee growers, Union Minister of state for Commerce &Iindustry Jyotiraditya M. Scindia disclosed here on Wednesday.

 Conceding that the coffee growers have been passing through a tough time owing to slew of reasons, Scindia said the ministry has been seriously considering a debt relief package for the entire plantation sector. He however, declined to mention the corpus of the fund.

A  package for the tea industry has already been announced with the ministry forking out Rs 600 crores to the Tea Board in the current five year plan that is ending in 2012. The fund is meant for technological upgrade of tea plantation, special purpose tea fund for rejuvenation and replantation.
