India and China on Friday agreed on carrying out “strategic communications” between the two countries and greater interaction among the armed forces for improving bilateral military ties.

Defence Minister A K Antony, who is on a four-day tour to China, met his counterpart Gen Chang Wanquan and Premier Li Keqiang, with whom he discussed military relations, exchange and interaction between the armed forces and regional security situation.

Interestingly, during the discussion on the need to maintain peace, tranquillity and stability along the 4,057 km long Line of Actual Control, Tibet military district commander Li Shiming, who was at the helm of affairs during the Depsang valley intrusion in April, was replaced by his deputy, sources told Deccan Herald.

The reason for the change remains unknown.
Tibet military district is part of the Chengdu military region, one of the seven military regions in China, adjacent to India.
