The HAL police on Saturday arrested five more persons in connection with rioting at Islampura on Friday night.

With this, the arrests in the case have gone up to ten. The arrested have been booked for assault, damaging public property and molesting a woman animal rights activist. The arrested were remanded in judicial custody for 15 days.

Condition stable

The condition of Nagadhar, a BJP party worker who was injured in the Friday night’s clash, is said to be stable. The doctors attending on him at Nimhans said Nagadhar also suffered eye injuries and was taken to Narayana Nethrayala for treatment. The Subramanyapura police, who are probing the incident, said cases have been registered against former deputy mayor S Harish and some of his supporters.

When contacted, Harish said he was in no way connected with the incident. “They are not our party workers. The meeting ended peacefully after we announced the list of new president and secretary. They created ruckus after we came out of the meeting hall,” Harish claimed.

There were more than 50 women workers and an MLC who attended the meeting. Nobody was chased and beaten up as has been claimed, he added.
