Shooter Prakash Nanjappa has been advised a month’s rest after suffering a paralytic attack at the ongoing ISSF World Cup in Granada, Spain.

The 37-year-old has been diagnosed with Bell’s palsy or the seventh nerve infection by the doctors.

Apparently, Nanjappa was not well while flying to Spain and his condition deteriorated on arrival.

“He (Nanjappa) experienced discomfort and numbness on the right side of the body when he arrived in Granada on July 4, he was taken to a hospital where adequate treatment was given,’’ PN Papanna, Nanjappa’s father, said.

After preliminary diagnosis, Nanjappa went for a second opinion at another hospital after a request from the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) President Raninder Singh to the Indian Embassy there.

“The NRAI President requested the Indian Embassy to render their medical services and it was accordingly done and the doctors at this hospital concurred with the diagnosis and treatment of the first hospital,’’ Papanna added.

Nanjappa had won the bronze medal in the men’s 10 metre Air Pistol event at the ISSF World Cup in Changwon, Korea in March.

Papanna also said that the NRAI, in the best interests of Nanjappa, had decided not to field him in any competition for a month.

“The doctors have also asked him not to go for shooting for a month and give himself good rest,’’ he pointed out.

Nanjappa, who arrived in Bangalore on Monday afternoon, is recovering well and Papanna was hopeful of his son resuming normal activity soon.

“He (Nanjappa) is comfortable now and improving, I feel he should be okay in about 10 days’ time,’’ Papanna said.

Papanna said he had asked Nanjappa to take it easy during the recuperating process and that the ISSF World Cup to be held in Munich in November this year was something he would be focusing on.
