A college girl and a boy were found with their necks slit in a serious condition inside a cinema hall in upper Assam's Jorhat town today.

The two were found in their balcony seats by cinegoers of the 2 pm show and informed the hall authorities, police sources said.

The girl (19), a first year B Sc student of J B College here and the 22-year-old boy were in an unconscious state with slits on their necks and wrists with a knife lying beside them, the sources said.

The two had gone for the 11 am cinema show and there were not many viewers for that screening, hall sources said.

The two were admitted to the Jorhat Medical College Hospital.

The police suspected it to be a case of suicide with the girl and boy attempting to slit each other's neck and wrist as there was alleged family opposition to their relationship.
Meanwhile, the Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) and women's organisations have protested asserting the incident could take place due to "lack of security" in the cinema hall.
