Dr Vandana Jayaprakash

Q I have marks on my skin that resemble blackheads and whiteheads. Could you  suggest a home remedy to get rid of them and clear up my skin?

A Blackheads are filled with plugs of sebum and sloughed-off cells and have undergone a chemical reaction resulting in the oxidation of melanin.  Whiteheads are follicles that are filled with the same substance, but have only a microscopic opening to the skin surface.  They can be treated with local keratolytic creams/ointment as advised by a dermatologist.

Here is a simple home remedy to get rid of blackheads and whiteheads. Take one tablespoon of fresh, coarsely ground black pepper powder and add to it enough curd to make a thick paste. Apply on the infected area and let it dry. Wash off after 5-7 minutes. This is an effective way to get rid of blackheads and whiteheads.
