Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said that the Samajwadi Party (SP) believes in bringing together people from all castes, religions and creeds in order to strengthen the nation.

Addressing the All-India Yadav Mahasabha here on Sunday, he said the SP has earned the confidence of all social sections and succeeded in fulfilling their grievances in Uttar Pradesh.

He said the SP had made great strides in the education, health and agriculture sectors in the state, and has introduced the laptop as a tool for all social and economic initiatives.

Akhilesh said the issues of Telangana and also the third front were of crucial concern for people of all states, and the SP would disclose its views on those issues at the appropriate moment and place.

However, he said the SP would fight against the fundamentalist approach of the NDA, led by the BJP, and would not compromise with them at any cost. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister refused to comment on the demand for small states, saying that it was not appropriate time to react on the subject.

Revenue Minister Raghuveera Reddy, MP Anjan Kumar Yadav, All India Yadav Conference president Uday Pratap Singh, general secretary Satya Prakash Singh, state president Baburao Yadav and others participated in the meeting.

Convoy attacked

Earlier, unidentified people had attacked the convoy of Akhilesh Yadav. A vehicle of Secunderabad MP Anjan Kumar Yadav was damaged in the attack. Akhilesh, in Hyderabad to attend the All India Yadav Conference, is staying at the Park Hyatt Hotel.

As he was leaving for the conference, some local Yadav leaders, including Anjan Kumar Yadav, followed him and tried to get into his convoy. However, the security personnel did not allow him.

The irate followers of Anjan Kumar then reportedly hurled stones at the convoy. As Akhilesh’s vehicle moved fast, some stones hit the vehicle in which Anjan’s son was travelling. However, he was not injured as it was a bullet-proof vehicle.

Akhilesh’s security staff later complained to the Banjara Hills police about the incident.

West Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police Satyanarayana said the police had identified four persons who had attacked the convoy, and registered cases against them.
