South Indian actor Manjula dies at 60

Noted yesteryear South Indian actor, who dominated the big screen in Tamil and Telugu in the 70s and 80s, Manjula Vijayakumar (60) died at a private hospital here on Tuesday morning.

She is survived by her actor-husband Vijayakumar and daughters Vanitha, Preetha and Sridevi Vijayakumar Manjula. She developed health complications after she fell from a cot in her residence. She sustained injuries to her intestine.

After making her debut as a child artiste and later as heroine opposite M G Ramachandran (MGR) in several Tamil films, she had featured in more than 100 films in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. Besides MGR she had shared the screen with icons like Sivaji Ganesan, Muthuraman, NTR, A Nageswara Rao and Sobhan Babu. Her first role with MGR was in “Rickshawkaran” in 1971. Film fraternity from across the southern states came in large numbers to pay their last respects.
