Mr. Nandan Nilekani, who made a turnaround of Infosys, richly deserves this prestigious award from Yale University. After quitting Infosys, he has joined the Government of India to provide unique ID number to every Indian, which will substantially upgrade the living standards of the poorest of poor by enabling them to obtain legitimate grants, scholarships, subsidies and benefits from the Government, which are now available only for those who can bribe. He will thus bring in transparency at all levels and people will get their dues at their door step by having this unique ID number. Thus the vulnerable sections of the community will tremendously benefit from his efforts. Mr. Nandan has sacrificed a luxurious job in Infosys only to serve the Indians. His commitment and zeal should be appreciated, as the project he has undertaken is not easy one. It requires meticulous planning and execution and sacrifie of holiday and all types of luxuries that he hitherto had.
