Barely 45 days after his marriage, a software engineer committed suicide by hanging himself at his flat in an apartment complex in Doddabansawadi in Banaswadi police station on Sunday morning.

The police gave his name as Deepak Srinivas, 28. He had married his relative Anusha, a MTech student of a City college, on June 20 at their hometown of Kolar. Deepak had completed his engineering from a City college.

He had been to Denmark for three years on work assignment and had returned a year ago. Subsequently, he was working as a senior software engineer with Fidelity Information Services, a multinational firm at Whitefield here.

Murali, the maternal uncle of Anusha told Deccan Herald that the two families were close to each other and Deepak was the second son of Sannegowda, an agriculturist in the town.

After their marriage, Deepak and Anusha rented a flat at Maruti Apartments in Doddabanaswadi. Around 10 am on Sunday, Anusha, screamed for help and ran down the stairs of her apartment as her husband pushed her out of the house in a fit of rage and, locked himself from within. Anusha said they had had a bitter tiff and Deepak threatened to commit suicide before pushing her out. In a span of 15 minutes, security guard and some residents of the apartment complex rushed to Deepak’s flat.

As they broke open the door, they found him hanging from the ceiling fan in the bedroom with a saree. Though he was rushed to a nearby private hospital, he was declared brought dead, the police said.

Suicide letter

A police official handling the case told Deccan Herald that Deepak had left a one-page note in English explaining the situations that forced him to take the extreme step.

In the letter, he has reportedly stated that before his marriage he was in love with a girl who, however, had spurned him. He claimed that when he openly discussed his this affair with Anusha, she started to suspect him and repeatedly harassed him, alleging that he had had a physical relationship with the girl before the marriage.

Deepak added that he could not convince his wife and, within a month of their marriage, it was in tatters. He said that he could not live with a wife who suspected him and, hence was ending his life, police sources said.

The sources added that the note addressed to Anusha, ended with: “Take care Anusha, sorry.”

Anusha's uncle said Deepak's father had spoken to him over phone even on Saturday night and he did not mention of any tussle between the couple.

He said the two families were unable to understand what had transpired between the couple, who appeared to be happily married.

On Deepak’s final note, he said both the families were unaware of any such affair.
