Namma Metro Phase I underground work as per schedule, says BMRCL

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has said that the underground stretch of Phase-I of Namma Metro is progressing as per schedule.

“Both the tunnels, between Majestic and Vidhana Soudha station, have been completed. Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) 1 (Helen) has completed tunnelling between Vidhana Soudha and Chikpet station and TBM 2 (Margarita) has tunnelled 226 metre from Vidhana Soudha station and Cubbon Park station,” the latest newsletter from BMRCL said.

According to the August newsletter, 1,09,400 cubic metre of excavation has been completed at the Bangalore City Station on the East West Corridor, while 241 metre of base slab, 470 metre side wall, 236 metre of concourse slab, 329 metre of side wall from concourse to top slab, 221 metre of top slab and 185 metre of platform slab are also complete.

At the Minsk Square station, 1,32,980 cubic metre of soil and 15,859 cubic metre of rock excavation for station box is complete, besides 272 metre of base slab, 504 metres of side wall up to concourse, 272 metre of concourse slab, 326 metre of wall from concourse to roof slab, and 113 metre of roof slab and 43 metre of platform slab have been completed.

“Considerable progress has been made on the other stations in the corridor,” a source said. Similarly, on the North South Corridor, both Kaveri and Krishna TBMs have completed tunnelling up to south of the City Market station and arrangements for dragging the TBMs through the City Market station are in progress.
