A rowdy, who had deserted a gang and was planning to join his rivals, was hacked to death allegedly by his gang members in Baiyyappanahalli police limits on Wednesday night. Saravana, 26, a resident of Baiyyappanahalli, is the dead.

According to the police, the murder took place near his house at around 11 pm. Saravana's one time associates—Dilip, Krishna, Bharath, John, Vinod, Dinakar, Muttu, Rama and Nagendra barged into the victim's house brandishing lethal weapons and dragged him out. When his brother Shanmuga rushed to his rescue, the gang attacked him too. Minutes later, Saravana was lying dead in a pool of blood.

Saravana was an accused in the murder case of Gopal in 2007 at Baiyyappanahalli. He had allegedly connived with Gopal's wife and her paramour and plotted Gopal's murder. They allegedly abducted Gopal in a car and took him to Malavalli and hacked him to death. He was sent to jail in the case.

After coming out of the jail three months ago, Saravana became close to his rival gang members to the discomfiture of his gang members. They had warned him against his move but Saravana had ignored their warnings.

Saravana and the suspects had exchanged heated words over the issue before the murder took place.
