Nazarbad police have arrested a seven-member gang of armed robbers, foiling plans to burgle a house near the outer-ring road leading towards Bannur on the outskirts of the city.

Anil from Madikeri, Satish, Suresh, Balu alias Bablu, Shankar, Madan and Govardhan from Bengaluru were arrested, near KSRTC suburban bus stand on Bengaluru-Nilgiri road here, recently.

Barring Anil and Satish, who have been remanded in police custody, all others have been sent to judicial custody. A car, along with lethal weapons and chemicals used for explosives, a pistol, and four live bullets, have been seized from them.

The police personnel on night patrol came across a group of youth moving in a suspicious manner. The personnel, who took the youth into custody, later succeeded in busting their criminal antecedents.

Their modus operandi was to stay in hotels and go around the city during morning hours to identify their targets. They would zero in on locked and lone houses, mostly of wealthy people and execute their plans at night.

Accordingly, they had selected a house belonging to a wealthy person near Bannur ring road junction.

Vehicles moving on highways, especially those having Kerala registration, were also their target, sources said.

Anil and Satish are history-sheeters with over 15 cases are pending against them in various stations in Bengaluru alone.

Cellphones stolen
Burglars made away with valuables, mostly cellphones, worth around Rs 7 lakh to 8 lakh from a mobile phone shop in Vijayanagar police limits.

In his complaint, Mahesh, proprietor of Mobile Palace on high-tension road, Vijayanagar Second Stage, has stated that a total of 50 cellphones of various companies and Rs 7,000 in cash has been stolen from the shop in the wee hours on Friday.

The burglars have gained entry into the shop after cutting the window grills of the bathroom ventilator, in the rear portion of the building.
