Continuing with their insensitive and shocking treatment of women despite the Supreme Court’s censure, a senior Uttar Pradesh police allegedly asked a minor rape victim to “strip” to “conduct” a check to ascertain how she was raped.

After the terrified victim ran out of the room and informed the family members, they lodged a complaint with senior police officials demanding action against the cop.

The incident occurred at Nebua Naurangia police station in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar district, about 300 km from here. Reports said a youth from the same village allegedly raped the minor on Sunday night. Villagers caught the culprit after the victim raised an alarm and handed him to the police after thrashing him.

When the minor and her family reached Nebua Naurangia police station to file a complaint, station house officer Jasraj Yadav allegedly took the victim into a room at the police station and asked her to “strip”.

“The SO asked me to take off the clothes...he said he wanted to see what the culprit had done with me,” the victim said. “I ran out of the room,” she claimed further.

The girl’s family approached senior police officials next day and lodged a complaint against the cop. Yadav refuted the allegations, but could not reply when asked why the victim was not sent for medical examination.

Yadav claimed that the minor was having an affair with the youth and invited him home. “She called the youth at her home but cooked up the rape story after they were caught in a compromising position,” Yadav alleged.

Senior officials said they were investigating the matter and the cop, if found guilty, would be given stern punishment.

UP cops had been accused in the past of raping and sexually harassing women complainants in police stations.

A few weeks before two PAC jawans had gang-raped a woman in Noida, while at Rampur some UP cops had raped a woman when she approached them to release her husband.

An incident in which a police inspector raped a woman inside the station near the state capital was also reported.
