Student dies day after assault

Bangalore, Oct 3, 2013, dhns:

A 19-year-old student at a City college, who was assaulted with lethal weapons on Tuesday night, succumbed to injuries past Wednesday midnight. In a dying declaration, he identified the assailants — said to be his friends who had fallen out with him over money.

Sunil, an undergraduate student, died of injuries at a hospital in HSR Layout, a day after a six-member group assaulted him in Manjunath Nagar off Magadi Road. The assailants had fled the scene as Sunil collapsed in a pool of blood. He was taken to a nearby hospital and later shifted to another hospital in HSR Layout.

In a complaint to the police, his father Babu alleged that the victim’s friends Anil, Nishanth, Navin and three others fought with his son over a monetary issue and fatally assaulted him with lethal weapons. Babu is an office assistant at a film production company.

Magadi Road police recorded Sunil’s dying statement in which he is said to have identified the assailants. Police have booked a case of murder and launched a manhunt for the suspects.

‘Rowdy’ hangs self

A man who faced several charges, including murder, dacoity and robbery, reportedly committed suicide at his house in Shivajinagar here on Thursday, police said.

Nadeem alias Kalu, 27, against whom a rowdy sheet was opened at Shivajinagar police station in 2011, was alone at his house on Slaughter House Street when he reportedly hanged himself.

The reported suicide came to light when his father and younger brother came home for lunch. In a statement to the police, Nadeem’s father said that his son was “depressed and dejected” about a domestic issue and might have taken the extreme step because of that.

The deceased faced trial in eight cases. Shivajinagar police have booked a case.
